It’s a little late to share this, but my word for the year is grow.
I was reminded of my word after reading through my journal this morning. I wrote how I want my children to grow spiritually and emotionally. And for myself, I want to never stay stagnant. I want to be more compassionate, a better listener, a lifetime learner, less judgmental and prideful. There’s always room to grow.
This week I participated in a Visio Divina. (If you want to learn more or do this exercise yourself, please see this devotion that came through my inbox this morning! There are no coincidences it came today!). Essentially, up on strings, dozens upon dozens of photos hung for us to choose and allow Spirit to speak to us.
I chose this photo:
I am here to tell you, the exercise works.
Spirit spoke to me through this photo and gave me the most incredible whispers of wisdom to bolster me, affirm me, and fill me.
I’ve felt a press to share this little heart thought with all of you.
These gorgeous tulips didn’t become tulips overnight. It took awhile to grow (see, we’re beginning to make a point here..). Not only does it take several months but,
the tulip’s growth start in the dark.
That’s right.
In order for this flower to fully bloom, the bulb begins covered.
Without the sun. Shrouded with unknowns.
Growth starts in the dark.
We all have our dark days. Maybe even dark seasons.
It will not last. The growth is coming.
We may have gifts or talents or dreams or wants or desires that are dormant.
Growth starts in the dark.
Don’t lose that hope.
If you can’t see the sun, it doesn’t mean the magic isn’t happening.
Life is still happening.
It’s slow.
Growth starts in the dark.
And we can all agree, admiring the beauty of this tulip garden, it’s worth the wait.
